World nuclear and radiation expo

COEX held the World Nuclear and Radiation Expo a month ago. This expo had been held last year too in Korea. Many companies, or academies related to radiation and nuclear power attended conferences and explained visitors about their product or company. This year, the companies tried to show people that radiation, or nuclear power can be used safely by making programs that qualified the safety technologies. Nuclear exports and power utility industry, dealing with radioactive waste, industrial radiation, and radiation used for medical care were newly introduced to the both conference and exhibition.

Nuclear power is created by nuclear fission, which happens when uranium gets neutrons. What happens when uranium gets more neutrons is the proton becoming two different protons. The nuclear fission produces a lot of heat, and this steam’s heat is the energy to turn the turbine which creates the power, which is called the nuclear power. This nuclear fission is very dangerous because when radiation gets out of the turbine, people will suffer from many problems such as deformation, miscarriage, or cancer. Another problem is nuclear power becoming weapons. Now, nuclear weapons are banned worldwide. However, almost every countries have nuclear weapons because the promise that every countries will not make any nuclear weapons was created after India and America built plenty of them. So, in order to stop countries from making nuclear weapons, this forum had many companies who have safety technologies.

“SF technologies” showed a new technology that can detect cars with uranium. The two censors, which looks like a big burglarproof censor stand on the road leading to the factory, or nuclear power plants. The alarms ring when the two censors detect uranium from the car. Japan has already started to use this technology in nuclear power plants. Plus, UN stop countries from making nuclear weapons by this radar that can detect uranium.

“Hankook Coatings” created a new substance called “Amorphous” using radiation which is 3 times stronger than titanium, and its elastic force is almost 8 times stronger than “Stainless steel”. Its frictional force is very small that this substance is used for thermos well, and tilting tools.

“STS networks” developed clothing that is lead-free and can protect people, especially doctors who work with radioactive machines. Also, the rain coats that can protect normal people from radiation in the rain were very surprising. The doctors had to wear special coated glasses that can protect their eyes from strong radiation too.

Radiation is used in medical care too, such as detecting babies in their moms’ stomach. When the machine beams the ultrasonic waves to the moms’ stomach, the wave reflects and comes back to the machine. Then, the machine chows the wave into a video because the speed and position is different. Plus, “Korean association of international sonography” made models that were almost same as the real human. Students now, are able to use ultrasonic waves by using these models that looked the same as human’s kidney. The waves almost reflected the same as human, and could detect the objects in the kidney which can be used to detect cancer.

This forum had almost 60 companies and associations having the same purpose, to make people to understand what nuclear power is, and how safely it can be used.
